The year that was..

Blimey, it's November already!   The last post I made in June seems life yesterday, still, just goes to show when you're having fun time flys.

Anyway, what a great year we've had.   The sun just keeps on shining here.   The last guests left in mid-October and everyone that stayed had the best weather ever.   Not too good for the land, but I'm sure mother nature will balance things out in due course, she always does.

Our next project is to complete the paving outside the trullo, this is planned for Feb/March 2012 in time for the new season.   This will probably be the last major project for some time (thank God), so we can actually enjoy the trullo without thinking about what needs to be done next.

I've managed to find some photos of the trullo before and during renovation which I'm going to add to the photo gallery at some point.

Toodle pip.

Schorchio!

Phew, it's been hot the last few days, and looks like it'll continue.  All the neighbours have had thier olive trees trimmed this year, but as ours fruited last year we've not had to go through the pain of prooning this year.

Just managed to sort out a Twitter account, anyone that wants to follow @trullofedelle please do.

Ciao for now.

Cherries everywhere!

My oh my.  This years cherry season is going to be a bumper one.  Of the trhee varieties at Trullo Fedelle, the best, are the Morellos, dark, juicy and very yummy.
The weather over the winter has been very mild, and this spring has seen some lovely warm days, all this adds up to perfect cherry weather.  This year will see, hopefully, a full crop of olives from our 150+ trees.  Dave & Karen are hoping to harvest in October/November, this will be our first real go at olive oil, so fingers crossed for then.

We've also discussed revitalsing our 450 odd vines, but after the last load I would need some convincing this would work; not really keen on wine that tastes of watered down vinegar!

First up..

The season has now started, and the first guests have just left.  Not heard anything from them, but a mid stay text assured me that they were having a nice time.  It's always good to know how our guests feel about the trullo.  Our next guests arrived last night, albeit after getting a tad lost!  No matter, all settled in now.

Spring has finally arrived in Puglia.  Winters not been too bad, but the advent of spring is always a lovely time.  From the sleepiness of winters slumber, blossoms appear from the cherry trees heralding the start of life yet again.  Work has now been finished on the Aia and it looks great, Dave & Karen have done a great job, and with a new lick of paint to the bedrooms, all is now ready for the forthcoming season.

It never rains, it's just sunny!  One of the driest winters on record so far here in Ceglie, whcih, I'm told will mean warm dry weather throughout spring and into the summer.  Beats icy Blighty!

Blog the 1st

Hurray!  My first blog on the website, this is the first episode.

Well, so that was Christmas.  Over and done with now, so on with the work at hand, or rather in the trees.  This time of year Vito spends pruning the olive trees, or so he says, but he always seems to be working just as I arrive in March to open the house for the coming spring/summer season, odd, or maybe just clever...

Talk at the moment is how to level the area in front of the house (the Aia) so that the above ground pool can sit in a more level position.  Thing is, the stones, which could have been laid anything upto three hundred years ago, are pretty big.  Dave, our man on the ground, is going to do a test run to see if it's possible to re-set them, fingers crossed.

Enough already! Silvio
